Common Myths about Adult Sex Offenders and How to Combat Them with Science and Facts
This workshop will allow lawyers and investigators to sort fact from fiction in assessing popular beliefs about adult sex offenders held by judges, prosecutors, jurors, probation officers, family members, the media, and others.  The lecture will acquaint the audience with available social science research for disproving harmful myths about clients who have committed sexual offenses.  Our presenter is a national expert with decades of experience in evaluating and treating sexual offenders ranging from high risk civilly committed offenders to juveniles.  He is past President of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, edits national publications on sex offense treatment, and has written numerous books and articles and taught nationally and internationally about treating sexual offenders.

Advocating for Appropriate Treatment for Juveniles who have Committed Sexual Offenses:  What Works?  What Hurts?
This workshop will equip lawyers and investigators to identify both effective and harmful treatment interventions with their juvenile clients who have committed sexual offenses.  An overview of current social science literature in treating juveniles will be provided to arm lawyers with scientific support for sentencing and revocation arguments.  Our presenter is a national expert with decades of experience in evaluating and treating sexual offenders ranging from high risk civilly committed offenders to juveniles.  He is past President of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, edits national publications on sex offense treatment, and has written numerous books and articles and taught nationally and internationally about treating sexual offenders.
